Discussing Mason Mount's untimely injury amid a poor start to the season, Erik ten Hag told reporters:  You can look for reasons behind [the failures], there are reasons when you picked up injuries, the back four is not working, you have to make a lot of subs in the back four.

That have an effect on the balance in the midfield, the front players, also there we have to make a lot of changes, so the routines are not there.

So still I think he had his moments when I think he did very well, but it stopped in the moment he got injured.

Like the rest of the team, Mount has struggled to come good on his potential. He's impressed in flashes so far but that's not enough to sustain a winning run.

The injury will be a bigger setback for the midfielder as he's now ruled out for a month.

From the team's perspective, losing Mount for an extended period with crucial games ahead - two big Champions League clashes against Galatasaray and Bayern Munich - is far from ideal.
